GUARDIAN ANGELS PROGRAM FOR DOGS
Many people who visit our website would love to provide a home for one of our dogs, but aren't able to adopt at this time. Others would like to honor a special person or pet and still others would like a gift for a difficult-to-buy-for friend or relative.
For these people, the SPCA of Northern Virginia has created a program called Guardian Angels that helps provide for our dogs until they can be placed into loving homes. For a minimum of $10 per month for 3 months ($30 total), you can become a Guardian Angel to a dog of your choice until it is placed into a home. Your $30 helps defray the cost of feeding, training, and veterinary care for your chosen dog.
In return, you will receive:
- Pictures and updates
- Copies of write-ups
- Peace of mind
If you would like to do this, please visit the Dogs for Adoption page, choose a dog, and follow the link for a Guardian Angels application. Payment may be made via Paypal (click on the icon below)
... or mail us a personal check along with your application form. Minimum 3 months at $10/month.
|Adele||Female Hound mix|
|Thank you Jason Wu; A Generous Friend!|
I was picked up as a stray. Good thing, too, because I hadn't eaten in a long time. The scar on my neck is from a rope or collar-can't remember which-that was much too tight. But I didn't lose faith in people. I still like them and I hope a kind person or family will give me a chance to prove it.
Was chained on leash, so more prone to lash out/snap at dogs while on one. Should be baby gated when left alone.

I'm kind of new here and haven't revealed my true personality. I do know that I am very lucky to be here though ... I'll tell you about myself once I've settled in a little.
|Barbie||Female Border collie/Lab mix|
|Thank you In Memory of Barbara Cohen From Mary Portelly, From Sharon Dryer, From Dana Meeker !|
Barbie is a smart girl who has recently weaned her 8 pups, has been spayed, and is ready to start the next phase of her life: she just wants to have FUN!
Barbie is happiest with another like minded canine companion who
appreciates her shenanigans, so we are looking for her forever home to have an existing canine companion or two.
Barbie is eager to please her human companions and hopes her forever
home includes training, older kids to keep her energized, and a
fenced in yard so she can romp with her future canine friend.
Barbie has a very high prey drive, so a home without felines or
other small pets is required.

|Thank you John R. Turner, Jr.; Cassie Rennie; Janet Dangelo!|
Sometimes life doesn't turn out as expected. I had a good home when I was adopted from the SPCA but now my family has to give me up. I need a quiet environment, preferably with one person. I'm a pretty big guy, so a home with a fenced yard to romp in (with supervision) would be nice, although not essential.
Could become dominant if not with experienced dog person.

|Thank you Bryanna Lee In Honor of Atticus, the Cat; Bonnie Sheehan and Family!|
Some people are "dog people". Well, I'm a "people dog." So if your dog wants a canine friend, he'll have to look elsewhere. I've been described as "sweet and loving." I'll bet I can love you. Please come to an adoption day so we can find out.
|Thank you Andrea Adams!|
LOVES people and tends to be a bit clingy...she always wants to be with you. Crate trained. Very sweet !!
|Gretel||Female Beagle/Jack Russel/Cocker Spaniel|

|Thank you Richard Lara; Sue Etzweiler; Dana Vogel - in Memory of Tasker; Christine Cartwright; Annmarie S.!|
I was adopted from the SPCA but returned because my adopter didn't have time to give me the exercise a big guy like me requires. If you can provide it, please come to meet me.
|Jefferson||Male Dachshund mix|
|Thank you NewseumED Team in Memory of Ironheart McCormack; Michael Nassoiy In Memory of Kelly Nassoiy!|
Jefferson and his brother Washington (affectionately known as Wash 'n' Jeff) got their presidential names because they came into our care on July 4th weekend!
My name is Jefferson, but you can call me Jeff. I am an active boy and my mission in life is to PLAY and make new friends. I've never met another dog that I didn't like, I'm cool with cats too..but dogs are more fun to romp with. I must be adopted into a home with another dog. After my brother Wash was adopted, my best pal to play & hang with at the rescue is Cecil, interested in two?
I really don't like apartments so if you have a single family home I'd really like that!
Since I'm still so young I would work best in home when I won't be left alone too long.
Give me a chance, I guarantee you love and smiles!!
PS-I sleep like a log!
|Jerry||Male Lhaso Apso mix|
|Thank you A Good Friend of Jerry; Cindy Fiedler In Honor of Daisy !|
I don't mean to be naughty, but I suffer from separation anxiety and I can become destructive when I'm left alone. I need a home where someone is home most of the time. Can you or a family member meet that requirement?
Can be protective but good with people. Does have some anxieties. Good on leash, house trained and no need to be crated.
|Maggie||Female Shih Tzu mix|
|Thank you Doris Viands; A Generous Friend!|
Knee surgery has improved my walking a bit. I'm a sweet and gentle little lady, and I want to be somebody's best friend. I think you and I could be great companions. Please come to meet me so we can get acquainted and perhaps come to an agreement about our future together.

|Monty||Male Bloodhound/Ridgeback mix|
|Thank you Sharon Dyer; A Generous Friend!|
I'm a big guy, but I was living in a crate 24/7 until a kind SPCA volunteer came to my rescue. Freedom is wonderful! So is having a "forever home", and I hope to have one soon.
Needs a dog experienced person. Wary of strangers. NO apartment or townhouse. Detached house with 6ft secured fenced yard
Here's a video showing Monty at the kennel that he's living at currently.

|Posh||Male Bichon, Lhaso Apso mix|
|Thank you Sharon Dyer; A Generous Friend; Bonnie and David Sheehan and Family In Memory of Alicia C. Schuck !|
Talk about a transformation! When I first came to the SPCA I was a matted mess and my disposition was less than endearing. But as you ladies can attest, when you look better, you feel better. I was groomed, and sure enough, now I'm described as "a very handsome fellow."
Due to his previous abuse, he is wary of strangers and could snap. Does NOT like to be picked up. Use a slip lead to get him in/out of car. Once he has slip lead on he is just fine. Bonds quickly and is VERY obedient. LOVES other dogs and would be best in home w/others. LOVES going on walks!!!! When you know his boundaries he is a GREAT little dog. Will need grooming periodically at a groomer.

|Stanley||Male American Bulldog|
|Thank you Bonnie Sheehan In Honor of KM Running the Marine Corps Marathon; A Friend of Stanley!|
Nice people took me from a shelter to give me a second chance and they even nursed me back to health, so I thought I had it made and would have my forever home. But their dog thought differently and it wasn't to be. So now I'm appealing to you and hoping you big-dog lovers out there will come to meet me.
Needs experienced dog person. Very lovable once he knows you. WARY of strangers
Here's a video showing Stanley at the kennel that he's living at currently.
