GUARDIAN ANGELS PROGRAM FOR DOGS
Many people who visit our website would love to provide a home for one of our dogs, but aren't able to adopt at this time. Others would like to honor a special person or pet and still others would like a gift for a difficult-to-buy-for friend or relative.
For these people, the SPCA of Northern Virginia has created a program called Guardian Angels that helps provide for our dogs until they can be placed into loving homes. For a minimum of $10 per month for 3 months ($30 total), you can become a Guardian Angel to a dog of your choice until it is placed into a home. Your $30 helps defray the cost of feeding, training, and veterinary care for your chosen dog.
In return, you will receive:
- Pictures and updates
- Copies of write-ups
- Peace of mind
If you would like to do this, please visit the Dogs for Adoption page, choose a dog, and follow the link for a Guardian Angels application. Payment may be made via Paypal (click on the icon below)
... or mail us a personal check along with your application form. Minimum 3 months at $10/month.
|Barbie||Female Border collie/Lab mix|
|Thank you In Memory of Barbara Cohen From Mary Portelly, From Sharon Dryer, From Dana Meeker !|
Barbie is a smart girl who has recently weaned her 8 pups, has been spayed, and is ready to start the next phase of her life: she just wants to have FUN!
Barbie is happiest with another like minded canine companion who
appreciates her shenanigans, so we are looking for her forever home to have an existing canine companion or two.
Barbie is eager to please her human companions and hopes her forever
home includes training, older kids to keep her energized, and a
fenced in yard so she can romp with her future canine friend.
Barbie has a very high prey drive, so a home without felines or
other small pets is required.

|Barney||Male Plott Hound|
|Thank you Whit Shelburn In Honor of Ellie Mae and Billy the Cat!|
I'm a sweet, loving puppy and growing every day. I'm energetic, as most puppies are, but more mellow than my brother, Fred (adopted). Since I'm still a puppy, I need a home where someone is home most of the time. Otherwise, how will I be house-trained? I'd love to have a yard to play in.
|Benjamin Buttons||Male Beagle mix|
|Thank you Carl Grayson!|
I'm a little shy but my SPCA friends are helping me work on my confidence building. I'm sort of goofy and fun loving. Because I'm shy, I'll run away from you first, but I'll come back if you offer me some yummy treats. I may not be the right choice if you're a first-time owner. I will be marvelous as a second dog, 'cause your other dog will teach me how to act. (His picture does not show it, but he has a black saddle on his back.)
|Buddy||Male Dalmatian mix|
|Thank you John R. Turner, Jr.; Cassie Rennie; Janet Dangelo!|
Sometimes life doesn't turn out as expected. I had a good home when I was adopted from the SPCA but my family had to give me up. In my youth, I used to like to put my paws on your shoulders and dance with you. I'm getting older now and cannot manage that anymore. Now I love to lie with my head in your lap. I need a quiet environment, preferably with one person. I'm a pretty big guy, so a home with a fenced yard to explore (with supervision) would be nice.
|Jack||Male Black lab/Great Dane mix|
|Thank you Richard Lara; Sue Etzweiler; Dana Vogel - in Memory of Tasker; Christine Cartwright; Annmarie S.!|
I was adopted from the SPCA but returned because my adopter didn't have time to give me the exercise a big guy like me requires. If you can provide it, please fill out a dog adoption inquiry form so that we can arrange a visit. I don't come to every dog adoption, so I need to know you're interested.
|Jerry||Male Lhaso Apso mix|
|Thank you A Good Friend of Jerry; Cindy Fiedler In Honor of Daisy !|
I don't mean to be naughty, but I suffer from separation anxiety and I can become destructive when I'm left alone. I need a home where someone is home most of the time. Can you or a family member meet that requirement?
Can be protective but good with people. Does have some anxieties. Good on leash, house trained and no need to be crated.
|Leo||Male Terrier mix|
|Thank you Axie Horton; Ashique Habib and Nicolas Saldias !|
I'm a friendly fellow and I couldn't get my tail to stop wagging at the recent adoption event. How about coming to meet me and you can see for yourself.
|Monty||Male Bloodhound/Ridgeback mix|
|Thank you Sharon Dyer; A Generous Friend!|
I'm a big guy, but I was living in a crate 24/7 until a kind SPCA volunteer came to my rescue. Freedom is wonderful! So is having a "forever home", and I hope to have one soon.
I am what some call "a lot of dog" so I need an experienced dog owner and more space than an apartment provides. I need to be introduced to new people. I need a house with 6 foot secure fenced yard.
If you are interested in meeting me, you have to submit a dog inquiry form. I don't come to every adoption, so the SPCA needs to know if you want to meet me.
Here's a video showing Monty at the kennel that he's living at currently.

|Stanley||Male American Bulldog|
|Thank you Bonnie Sheehan In Honor of KM Running the Marine Corps Marathon; A Friend of Stanley!|
Nice people took me from a shelter to give me a second chance and they even nursed me back to health, so I thought I had it made and would have my forever home. But their dog thought differently and it wasn't to be. So now I'm appealing to you and hoping you big-dog lovers out there will come to meet me.
Needs experienced dog person. Very lovable once he knows you. WARY of strangers
